Have we missed an opportunity?//Open to Staff...?

There was no doubt... that the other day had been beyond strange. There was an air of strangeness that had blanketed the remainder of that day... making Neil rather uncomfortable. He found things to occupy himself... to keep his mind away from what had been said to him... from what Lucky had said.
She had been high... she didn't mean anything.... right?
Right.
Neil sat in a chair in front of his television... there in the living room by the front door of the tiny place he was temporarily calling 'home'. The chair was rather old looking thing that matched the color of his hair. He had settled himself down into its cushions, finding some sort of solace in its unneeded warmth. Yeah.... he didn't need to be warm... it was already warm that day, anyhow. That was why he probably wore a white wife beater and a pair of loose blue jeans... trying to keep as cool as possible, but without feeling exposed. He cursed the day for being hot... for being sunny. It felt disgusting.... as if it was warning him that the week would be terrible.

That his life was taking some sort of horrendous turn for the worse. He didn't want that to happen. And he didn't think that the previous day would have this much of an effect on him. Neil kept his head down, focusing himself on the notebook in his lap. Apparently, writing things down was the only way to let himself drift a tad. But it wasn't quite working...
His brow was furrowed and his lips pulled taut... staring at the clean sheet of paper that he had intended to write on...
His hands weren't working... the pen between his fingers refused to let him think.

This wasn't fun at all. After a moment of grumbled frustration, Neil sat back, craning his head and letting himself stare at the ceiling. This wasn't fair... everything was mentally sticking to him and he hated it. It was like gaining weight.... but without the joy in eating. The hazel of his eyes had dulled with his anger towards his inability to properly think...
And he really needed to think. Think about something else! To distract himself adequately.

It didn't matter anymore, it seemed.... The man adjusted the glasses that he had placed upon his face, pushing them up the bridge of his nose slightly. They didn't stay up for too long, though... they slid right back down. Apparently... the heat of the day had covered the man in a light sheen of sweat... or something. Either way, he hated it.... made evident by the way Neil bared his teeth. At least he had a fan on... even then, it didn't help too much.
Thankfully, he was done with work for the day.... so he wouldn't be bothered by the heat in front of his patients... and he wasn't required to look professional. Either way, this was one day where he didn't even feel professional... just troubled and distant.

But.... maybe... there was opportunity in what had happened the other day... maybe there was something good about it all. It certainly had confirmed something for Neil and he was having a hard time believing it. It was something that he had certainly be trying hard to deny...
Now... there was no sense in pushing it aside....

Lucky.... Had just discovered something. Really, some big finding, to say the truth... The heat was fun. In California, that is. It was fun, because it was sunny, and all that stuff... But the heat, in London? It was deffinetly NOT cool. Because she felt like she was going to suffocate anytime, humidity was getting to her BAD, and... She just... Hated it. And it was rather easy to tell that something was getting to her, by the look on her face.... Her lips pursed, her eyes narrowed just... Ever so slightly. Her arms were crossed infront of her chest, as she walked rather briskly (No matther how hot it seemed to be) down the hallway, no perticular destination in head....

She was walking, just to walk. She wasn't walking to somewhere, nor was she walking from somewhere.... She was just... In the act of walking, it seemed. Because walking seemed to be the only thing for her to do, at that moment. Yes, because she had just been released from the infirmary. Thanks God, but then... Not. Because she didn't feel like heading back to her place. She had... Too much in mind to just leave the asylum. And well, the one... Thing/person she was thinking about was actually at the asylum.

Groaning slightly, the girl rolled her green eyes, shaking her head a bit. Her teal hair was pulled up into a loose, messy, rather small ponytail, seeing how she had taken her extensions out... Thanks to the heat, once again! She had been annoyed by how thick her hair had seemed to be, how it felt like it was sticking to her skin all day... So she had uncliped them all from her head, and adios. Her chest was covered by a black and white polkadot halter top, and she had some random jean, rather short BUT NOT SKANKY SHORT skirt.
Yeah, screw the uniform, she was done with work anyways.
Plus, she certainly wouldn't have been wearing flip flops, if her shift wasn't over! This though made her smile a bit, hell, she even let out a soft laugh... Though, it quickly subsided when she noticed where her feet had taken her... She was standing so close to that room. And hell, she hadn't even thought about it... The nurse scratched the back of her neck, sighing softly, and thinking things over. Because, she really was confused on what to do, and how to do it.

Did she REALLY want to face him yet? Maybe it was too soon. How would he react? But then, he'd probably be right to react that way, no mather.... Ugh. She hated it all. How these thoughts had been haunting her since... Then. How stupid had she been to pull a stun like this! And look at her. Look how she had felt that morning... Sober and all. She had felt like shit. Her system wasn't used to that kind of stuff anymore... And she regreted doing it all. Not only because of how she felt, but because of how she had acted, too.... Because of the words that had left her mouth, the words she would NEVER have said if only she had been... Well.. Sober.

Maybe... Going to him and trying to talk was the best thing to do. Because else, her poor mind would be tortured for ever... And she somehow had a feeling she had some good old explaining and apologizing to do... So she started to walk toward the door... That had two number on it. 11. When it came into view, she gulped down that ball of nervosity, and looked at her toes... Though, soon enough, she had to look up, because she was standing infront of the door. She could hear the faint sounds of a televisions coming from inside the room...

So her hopes of him being away... They disapeared. She slowly raised her hand, but then acted as if she was going to scratch her head, looking around... As if someone was watching her, and forcing her to do it. YEAH, it WAS riddiculous. She shook her head, and finally let her knuckles hit the wood.... Softly. As if she really didn't want to be heard. But then, she somehow had the feeling he would hear it. She licked her lower lip quickly, because pulling at the hem of her top just a bit, feeling like a kid...

"Grow up" she grumbled to herself, really softly, before looking back up.

Neil's mind continued to terrorize him, showing him scenarios of what his life would be like if things continued to be like this. He couldn't help it... Neil had a tendency to focus on the long term. He knew it would all probably turn out for the better, but he had been trained to think otherwise.... to see the bad. It was the idea of possibility... it was the backing device of doing what he did... the foundations of psychiatry. Thinking of the bad wasn't the best thing to do at a time like this. Eventually, he tore his thoughts away from that sort of thing, focusing instead on the notebook he was still holding in his lap. It didn't take long for him to think of something to write, actually... Thank GOD.

He began scribbling away, lowering his eyebrows darkly and narrowing his eyes. He wasn't all too sure of what he was writing... words just seemed to come to him. It included a description of a woman sitting on staircase, staring at a photograph. They were distant words that formed into some sort of poem that Neil couldn't even understand himself. He supposed that this was all good... that relieving his frustration was going to be for the better....
There was one thing he wasn't counting on, though... and that was the sudden knock on his door. The sound was loud and seemingly sharp, breaking his silence like a firework. In an instant, Neil snapped from what he was doing, twitching violently as his heart beat fell in to a much faster pace. He sat there, panting, trying to calm himself... and when he finally did, he automatically assumed that the person knocking at his door was his superior.... well... any sort of superior.
He was done with work... what did they want from him? What COULD they want from him?

In all honesty, Neil wasn't all too prepared to deal with a staff member... physically, mentally, and... erm... clothing wise. He groaned audibly, deciding that something had to be done. If he were to send them on their way, he was sure that he wouldn't hear the end of it the next day. Then again... putting effort into answering the door didn't sound like his cup of tea at the moment. The man sighed deeply, looking down at his notebook briefly before letting his head swing to the side... in the direction of the door. "Come in..." he shouted, closing one eye as he rubbed the side of his head. "It's unlocked..."

Oh that groan. Why... It seemed to her that the walls were made out of cardboard boxes, she didn't know, but she did hear that groan. And she almost felt like turning on her heels, and walking away as fast as possible, but she didn't... Because that wasn't nice. Yes, the though of maybe feeling some kind of wind brushing her face as she took off seemed pretty interesting, but she had to do what had to be done. Really. So when Neils voice reached her ears.... The young woman bit her lips, and let her hand reach for the door knob.

And... There was that small second... Where she hesitated, once again.

But, with her small fingers wrapped around the cold metal, she knew that there was no turning back. Plus, Neil didn't sound all that happy about (She guessed so) being disturbed, so just... Walking away, would not help. The nurse twisted the knob, and she opened the door... Just enough to stick her teal haired head in... And to take a look around. Gah, the first thing to hit her, was the fact that it was just as hot in the room as it was everywhere else in the asylum. Yeah, she had somehow hoped it would be cooler, just so.... She'd feel better. Maybe that this would help her feel better about herself or something.

But screw that. The young woman let out a soft sigh, opening the door wider, and walking in.... She turned around, closing the door silently... And she walked in, the sound of her flip flops hitting the floor and her feet annoying her badly for some reason. Screw those things... They were so comfortable, but annoying... Anything to get her mind off of things, right? Though, she had to focus on why she was here when she saw Neil... Sitting in that chair, in GAH a wife beater and jeans? Well, that was different. A GOOD kind of different, mind you.

And it probably showed on her face that she found it interesting, because she just looked at the man with a slightly arched eyebrow, completly silent, for a few seconds.... She then smiled slightly, beofre looking down at her own legs, taking interest in the pale skin all of a suden. "Sorry I guess I'm... Disturbing you or something right?" she said, looking back up at him and then down at that... Notebook in his laps. Yeah, no 'Hello' or 'Hey' or 'How are you'... Weird coming from her, one could say, but eh.

When Neil heard the door open, he let his head bow slightly, keeping his eyes on his notebook. He was almost expecting a heavy berating from the visitor... still thinking that it was someone of superiority. He nearly groaned a second time, anticipating something that wouldn't happen. He kept his ears open, though, picking up the sound of flip flops slapping against the floor. It seemed out of the ordinary... extraordinarily different compared to the usual clopping of dress shoes he was so used to.
Just the realization made Neil glance up... finally.

In an instant, he slid off his glasses, recognizing that teal colored hair and the pale face. He certainly wasn't prepared for this... for Lucky. With that, Neil stood, tossing his notebook to the floor along with his pen. His mouth opened, perhaps to say something.... anything to keep him from just staring. He didn't think she would want to see him after... everything. The sound that he had hoped would move from his throat.... didn't. His voice was gone... if only for a second.
"Lucky...." he finally murmured, tossing his gaze to the floor... much like she had done. "I... No... You're not disturbing me... In fact... I wasn't really doing anything productive anyhow..."
He shouldn't have really said that... not that they were words of insult... but he saw that she probably wouldn't care all that much about what he was doing in here. There was no reason to care in her case. The man rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly in an attempt to perhaps distract himself... for the nth time that day. His eyes flitted upward for a brief moment, taking in the girl's form... trying to allow himself to think of something else to share with her. Needless to say, he couldn't help but notice how good the young woman looked even in this heat.
Even in the heat of his own room... it was undeniably warmer in his living space than it was outside. If only the air conditioner wasn't on the fritz. That explained Lucky's flip flops... and that skirt.... a rather short skirt. Neil almost blushed at that.
Neil's mouth fell open again, attempting once again to find words to say.

"I wasn't expecting you to... uh..." he began, clearing his throat lightly and furrowing his eyebrows. His teeth gnawed gingerly at his bottom lip, his mind a bit lost as to how to finish his sentence. "Come by here..." That was good... just wonderful. He probably sounded like a bit of an idiot. Plus, it didn't take him long to realize that he hadn't offered the girl a seat.. or a drink.. or anything. He didn't meant to be rude... no necessarily. Those things had just evaded him. And, now, as he noticed his indiscretion, he didn't move to redeem himself. He continued to refrain suddenly from being a good host.... in fear that he might to something wrong... whether it be tripping over his words or actually tripping over his feet. He wasn't in the mood to embarrass himself.

His reaction was... close to what she had been expecting, really. The surprise and all...

And she was not sure if it was good or not, to be honest... She wasn't sure at all. The young woman kept her gaze on the floor for a few seconds, listening to Neil as he spoke, telling her that she wasn't disturbing anything. She let a soft laugh escape her throat as he mentioned himself not doing anything productive, and she finaly let her eyes raise back to look at him... His standing figure, as he, himself, looked down to the floor... "Well, I don't think anyone could do anything classified as productive right now. Too... Uncool." she said softly, shaking her head and furrowing her brows at herself.

She listened as he spoke again, and she kept her mouth shut, by fear of saying something unbelievably stupid. She had the feeling that something like 'Well I wasn't really expecting to come by here either, and I didn't really feel like it anyways' was going to come out if she spoke. And that, my friend, would have killed her. She shrugged her shoulders, raising one of her hand to scratch at the back of her neck, and she just... Smiled.

"Well, I think... I actually had to come here, because I owe you some apologize and... Well, Explanations.. Probably deserve to get spanked once or twice, too." she said, trying to... Well... Brighten the mood, lighten the mood, whatever you want to call it. She just didn't like this whole Awkward feeling and atmosphere... She blinked, before clearing her throat, and shaking her head a bit... Actually, it might have looked as if she was trying to chase some weird images from her mind, but it was only to give herself some courage, and maybe to step over her pride.

She took a few steps closer to Neil, standing before him, her arms crossed over her chest. "I'm sorry for yesterday. I mean... That was totally stupid, and I said stuff that was really uncalled for. And I had no rights to threat you the way I did. And I shouldn't have even thought about doing these stupid drugs, but I don't know. Just.... It sucked. Bad." she said quickly, looking up at him, with a small, shy smile on her lips.

Too... 'uncool'. It was a different word that Neil wasn't exactly expecting to here. But it seemed to fit... the temperature of the asylum and the overall mood of the place. Summer's wasn't... cool... in any way. Neil wasn't one to personally want to be here. He just wanted to go somewhere private... play his piano and be around the girl with the teal hair. He could think of plenty of far more entertaining things than hanging around Summers. And he could think of something else he would rather be doing than having to put up with the awkwardness Lucky was presenting him with. Not that he minded... he knew it was necessary. But he didn't really want to go through with the whole "apology" thing. There was always that part of life that a person wants to bypass.
"I can't really write in this heat..." he eventually claimed, reinforcing her comment about the warmth of the day. He shook his head with a bit of frustration... and tried not to continue complaining. Lucky didn't want to hear Neil's complaints...

Not that he had anything to complain about anymore. Lucky was smiling at him... and scratching the back of her neck. It made Neil remind himself that.. everything was going to be OK. He found himself smiling back and already yearning to apologize for every bad thing he had done. He wanted to be vulnerable... he was suddenly enjoying it. Not that he was going to mention it... it wasn't all too appropriate, was it? Although... it seemed that a conservative attitude about the whole thing was being pushed aside. The way Lucky worded her... 'apology'... was certainly... erm... 'interesting' enough to make the man's breath catch in his throat. In fact... he almost blushed. Thankfully... he didn't. For some reason... Neil did want to remain at least somewhat serious. Although.... he did let out a faint, sheepish chuckle.

All he could do after that was watch her shake her head.. then continue with her apology. Needless to say, Neil had different thoughts in his mind. He felt awfully guilty... for whatever. Maybe for getting on the girl's case. As soon as Lucky finished, Neil took a breath... and reached forward to take Lucky's hand. "Uncalled for... yes... And a little bit sucky...." he sighed, letting his eyes fix on the ceiling for a moment... thinking about how to approach his own words. "But... really... I think I should be apologizing..." He cleared his throat for a second, lowering his eyebrows. "I mean... I shouldn't be telling you how to live your life... or getting pissed about the mistakes you make." He paused, chewing on his bottom lip thoughtfully.
"I just don't want to see you... in pain.. or anything..." he admitted after a moment, finally letting himself look into Lucky's eyes... fully. "Because I know that sucks even more... For both of us... So I guess a spanking is out of the question." His smile returned, bright and warmer than it should have been. It felt refreshing to joke around a bit.. if just for a bit.

Were they to the point where they would fight over... Apologizes? No. They couldn't be that bad. That sounded seriously wrong, to her... "Oh no, you're no the one who should be sorry, I am... No, you weren't wrong, I was... OH YOU LOVEBUCKET!"... That sounded incredibly wrong to her 9Yeah, she loved pretending she was having a conversation with someone in her head...), and it almost made her wince a bit in mental pain. Yeah, she hated how cheesy it osunded to here, but she decided no to mention it... Plus, the reason... WHY he was apologizing, was more important then how extremly gagful this moment was... Or maybe it wasn't that bad... Maybe it was just her....

But whatever!
He was telling her he shouldn't be dictating her what to or not to do with her own life, and her jaw almost dropped right then and there.... "What?" she said softly, opening her mouth to speak again, but failing at finding the right words. She just then noticed his hand that was holding her own smaller one, and she gave it a slight squeeze. "Neil... No. I mean... You were... Completly right. I mean, that was the stupidest, dumbest move ever." she said, narrowing her eyes a bit. "And... You should have yelled at me, punched me or something... To get some sense back into me." she added.... Thankfully, she had came back to her sense by herself....

Though.... His next comment made her smile... He didn't want to see her in pain. She looked at him, and couldn't help but to sigh softly.... Only for it to be covered by a laugh. "Oh... Right the spanking." she said, looking around. "You never know eh, you might like that" she added, smirking slightly. "Ew. No. I'm sorry. That was out of the question." she added, scrunching up her nose in that bunny look of hers.... Yeah. She felt.... Funny.

"Anyways! So... I'm sorry. And, I won't let that happen again. And I won't do drugs ever again. And...." she started to say, before furrowing her brows. What was she going to add, ehm?! Maybe 'and I really really... Like... You. So I won't.' or... Something, but no. "And nothing." she added softly, looking down for a bit... Yeah well... She didn't want to mention this. Why? Because. The previous day, she HAD mentioned it... How they didn't even know if they were supposed to be going out or something. And well, maybe she was just stupid, but it wasn't clear to her, and she always needed confirmation.... But she was just stupid. And she didn't feel like bothering Neil with that. Plus... She had a feeling the man had lost a bit, or alot or respect he had for her, due to that shitty event... SOO. Yeah.

Neil, of course, noticed how sappy he sounded as he claimed that he was the one who was supposed to apologize. He wasn't about to admit, though. There was no sense in drawing even more attention to himself and making the situation awkward... which it sort of already was. It wasn't until Lucky told him that he should have punched her that he seemed to shake his head a bit. "No matter how much sense you're missing...." he began, adding a chuckle. "I wouldn't dare punch you..." She didn't deserve any of that. Besides, he wasn't one to get into fights anymore. Of course, due to the slight squeeze of his hand from her, Neil deducted that she wasn't all too serious.
At least there was laughter again, as well.
Hearing the girl laugh lifted something from the atmosphere in the room. It made Neil laugh, as well, taking the time to watch the woman scrunch her nose cutely. He had never seen the expression before... and if he had, it seemed new to him... a welcome change from such serious talk.

Neil seemed to keep a firm hold on Lucky's hand as she continued, listening intently. She apologized again.... and then let her statement wander away from her. He was left with an 'and'. She ended it with a 'nothing', but, for some reason, Neil didn't believe it. The last time she had muttered a 'nothing', it had led to something very, very good. He was sure that this 'nothing' would be the same. He tilted his head slightly, eyeing the girl with overwhelming curiosity. "Nothing?" he repeated, letting his lips twitch into a small, barely there smile. For a moment, he decided to forget it, shaking his head and letting his smile widen.
"You know..." he then began, turning his gaze upward rather thoughtfully. "With the way we're going... we might as well be a couple..." Another chuckle fell from his lips, making his face light up and his eyes to brighten. The heat in the room was still there, but it seemed to take on a different form. He took heed of this by leaning forward to place a lingering kiss on Lucky's cheek...
